Erehwon Ventures into Film Production

Erehwon ventured into its newest undertaking, “films.com,” with its inaugural short film, “Rizal and the Secret of the Light,”. The film, which can be viewed through youtube, copped the Festival Director Award under the Independent Achievement Award category of the International Film Festival Manhattan 2022. The awarding was made in New York City, USA, last October 13, 2022. Bonifacio Ilagan wrote the script and co-directed the film with Fritz Silorio.

The next short film, “Ang Paglapastangan sa Supremo,” featured Andres Bonifacio at his historic confrontation at the Tejeros Convention where he was mocked by Daniel Tirona, a member of the Magdalo faction loyal to Emilio Aguinaldo.

The first series of films seek to renew the interest of the public, both local and international, in the saga of Filipino heroes and be inspired by their qualities and traits that have made them extraordinary and worth emulating.

This initiative at film production was followed by a series of videos lauding the musical legacies of Filipino music legends like Heber Bartolome, Mike Hanopol, Tots Tolentino, and Joey Ayala.

In mid-2022, Erehwon went into full-length feature film production, with “Amon Banwa sa Lawud” (Our Island of the Mangrove Moons), a co-production of the Erehwon Center for the Arts and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies of Notre Dame University, USA. Shot on location in Suyac island in Sagay City, a coastal community in Negros Occidental, the film was directed by Dr. Anton Juan, who also co-wrote the screen play. The film premiered in Negros in 2023 and later won an international prize as best feature film at the Louth Film Festival in Ireland.
