The book is Boni Ilagan’s first anthology of his plays.  Seven full scripts are covered in this book, two of which are screenplays, including the powerful “Pagsambang Bayan,” the first play that challenged the dictatorship which has been staged multiple times around the Philippines.  It also includes “Dukot,” a courageous movie highlighting Filipinos’ worsening human rights.

The book narrates as well the socio-political environment during the periods these plays were written and the inspirations behind these.  It also offers a deeper look into the life of the author, the people he worked and collaborated with, to give life to the dramas that have courageously put into theater and the movie screen, the struggles of the Filipino people.

The author is a multi-awarded Filipino playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker, journalist, and editor.  The Cultural Center of the Philippines called him “a master playwright” and “a respected cultural activist, who firmly committed his craft to a nationalist line and fearlessly reinvented the theatrical stage into a potent venue for expressing the democratic aspirations of the Filipino people…”
